If there is nothing good coming out of REGGAETON then tell me this smarty what good is coming out of merengue now???
What Oro Solido having some stupid rapper named Reynos (dike from the heavy hitters) rap over a stupid merengue track that makes no sense also how about bachata, let me take a quick guess Aventura will make another CD full of disses to men (to keep their women status up) and what from Anthonty Santos another 5 years bfore he comes back to NYC sso he can charge $25,000 again to the promoters ( askeroso! )..
So when you say what good is coming out of Reggaeton, nothing good is BUT what good is coming out of any music now?....When for the last fucking 5-10 years I was sick to me head listen to merengues, of EL ARENQUE, EL BACALAO, MARIA SE FUE, MACHUCALO, ETC....-

wow. Incredible how this ignorant (not Edwin, the anonymous poster) has the balls to even comment on the same merengues that made him money when they were hot. Now he's dissing it. He's probably some fustrated DJ that is somewhere on his computer (because he's not working in any club) trying to hate on Merengue. Oh now!! after you probably chased all the merengueros for tracks back in the day,, now they're no good to you huh??
Look at it this way, When freestyle was hot... NO ONE thought it was going to die out - guess again buddy... When Merengue like Oro Solido, Malafe, etc was hot... eveyrone thought they'd struck gold!! Dude get useed to it!! changing times, being new ideas, different styles, etc. shit even recycled stuff!! How many times, haven't you heard a hit that was big int he 80's or 90's come back in some form!! Some of those hit songs in reggaeton were hits in salsa in the 90s - do your homewowk before you come talking shit on some website.
FaCT: Just like the "rock" is the "hulk hogan" of this generation, George Lamond was the Daddy Yankee of Freestyle, Oro Solido of Street Merengue, and so on with the others. Reggaeton is HOT now.... After reggaeton, there will be something else. Nothing lasts forever. Hey, we seen shell toe adidas and kangol hats make a re-appearance - who knows if Merengue will come back in a differerent form.
P.S. - Nice Article Edwin. Anon....

Dear Disgruntled Remolacha.net Reader,
In the 90’s the merengue known as “merengue caliente” deteriorized the status of the Merengue that was introduced in the 80’s by artists such as Fernandito Villalona, Alex Bueno, Los Hermanos Rosario, Ruby Perez… etc... Not to mention that it indeed need a "face lift" or as others may put it... something different... You may consider that Oro Solido paved the way for many artists like; Amarfis, La Banda Chula, Banda X, La Banda Flakka, Barimambo, Rumbanda, etc. in which they created merengues that: 1. had no true rhythm, 2. had no beginning or end, 3. had no meaningful lyrics, and 4. from artists that came straight off the boat with no recollection of how to sing. But guess what… “after you probably chased all the merengueros for tracks back in the day,, now they're no good to you huh??” thanks to Anon. Post 2…
Anthony Santos is a Legend just like Elvis Presley. The only difference is that he’s not dead yet. Mike Piazza is a Baseball Star, he Charges $25,000 just to show up and SMILE… you think I’m happy with that? Perhaps it is my assumption that it is too early for anyone to say if these “Reggeatoneros” will do more harm then good to a generation of young adults that listen to the music. I grew up watching MTV, and listening to La Mega everyday on my way to School… here I am, an Engineer above all, and I sure do love my Merengue and I still do get a crack from La Mega.
If you look at the history of Merengue, Rap, Rock, Freestyle or Salsa and compare these genres with Reggeaton you will find MANY similarities. For one, you’ll always get a critic. Good or Bad, you need to understand that some people… more then others, will enjoy the beat, lyrics, or the form of dance (GRINDING, 123,567 Step, Two Step, Mosh Pits etc) that is accompanied by the nature of the music. Two, Reggeaton just like Rap, Rock, Salsa, Bachata, Freestyle and Merengue were accompanied with the same stereotyping of other generations that included drug dealers, drug users, the poor, the rich, the good, the bad, and so on and so on. All I’m saying is… what goes up must come down… From what I’ve heard, if your not in-tune with the music world… Soca (Brazilian Music)/Reggeaton may be the new viable mix for the upcoming replacement of Reggeaton. Perhaps you might want to do your homework on that… I like Reggeaton just as much as the next person. But if you think that I’ll give up my Merengue Classico or Salsa Classica for all the Grinding involved in Reggea, Reggeaton, Dancehall, Hip Hop, or any of those genres… Estas equivocado…
" Reggeaton doesn’t come close to the way in which my feet just OOZE on the dance floor while I dance Salsa. "
One more note… Juan Luis Guerra released a new CD full of Christain music in the form of Merengue… I don’t know what kind of good that is doing either… but he is one heck of a smart guy for making “Las Avispas” from his new CD “Para Ti” no. 1 on the charts… Christians all over the world are buying the CD. And he certainly isn’t going to charge promoters $25,000 for a performance… As a matter of fact he probrably doesn’t do performances anymore… they might call it a "Special Appearance", where he SMILES, and still charges that much.
