My Last Post Of 04

Well this will be my last post of 2004...

For starters it was a great year! My New Years resolution was accomplished within the first few months of the year and I'm greatful to be debt free... This year's resolution is will be to save up and buy a new car or just simply save up for the downpayment on a house... who know's? As much as I love living at home it can certainly get annoying from time to time... Second, I think I've worked more this year then I will in my entire life... Luckily the jobs I've aquired aren't Minimum Wage jobs... lol.. thats another post... Third... I've also met plenty of personalities through blogging who have become more then a support team... Bracuta, Remo, Jose, Magda, and the endless number of visitors that visit on a daily basis... Thank You... I consisder you all as a family and more then that, REAL people... You are part of the working class, about the same age group, open minded, down to earth, friendly, generous... and the list can go on and on... you are all an inspiration and I wish you all the love, happiness, and health that we all need to blog forever and ever...lol... Hopefully 2005 will be yet another great year... There are a number of things I plan on completing early on this year. But the one I'm most excited about is setting up a successful website: www.merenguesdelos80.com...

The one thing I have come to learn is that I am greatful for the loving family that I have... My parents are awsome and I love them to death... and even when my parents are not on thier "best terms", it's definately a learning expirience for me to see how two people that really love each other, need each other on so many different levels and don't even notice it. I've learned a lot from just listening, watching, and reading into thier relationship. Mistakes they've made and the great example of how to maintain a marriage for 30+ years has been an honor to be a part of... I certainly hope we can all celebrate 50 when the time comes... Well thats about it for now... Happy New Years Everyone!

UrShelf.com

Fellow classmates from NJIT have completed thier first successful semester with their online book store!

The idea for urShelf.com was conceived by four students at the New Jersey Institute of Technology. Ryan Spadaccini found that he had great difficulty finding the textbooks he needed online. He and Scott Jolliffe brought the idea for a customized online textbook marketplace to their fellow Pi Kappa Phi fraternity brothers Sarabjit Singh and Geoffrey Cox, who worked to design and implement the site. urShelf.com was launched on August 3, 2004, after more than a year of development and testing. After its successes in the Fall 2004 semester, the four are optimistic about this upcoming Spring. "We wish something like this had been around when we were still in college," Jolliffe remarks. "We might've done more of the reading," he jokes. Indeed, college students across the country are about to reap the benefits urShelf.com... and they'll have no more excuses for not doing the reading.

NYY

I just love it! Randy Johnson on the Yankees! The
Diamondbacks and Yankees have agreed on a deal that would send Randy Johnson to New York for Javier Vazquez... Javier Vazquez is a great picher as well so I'd like to know why they are trading him instead of some of the other pichers such as Paul Quantril, Scott Proctor or Kevin Brown!

"Once a deal is finalized, the Diamondbacks also will get left-handed pitcher Brad Halsey, catching prospect Dioner Navarro and $8.5 million to $9 million in exchange for the 41-year-old left-hander" ESPN The Magazine's Buster Olney reports.

"Navarro may be spun off to the Dodgers in a separate deal that would send outfielder Shawn Green to Arizona", Olney reports.

Several things must happen before the trade can be considered complete:

1. The paperwork must be submitted to commissioner Bud Selig's office.

2. All players must pass physicals.

3. Johnson has to formally give approval because he has a no-trade clause.

4. The Yankees want a 72-hour window to negotiate an extension with Johnson, whose current contract expires after the 2005 season.

Potential Yankees starting rotation Pitcher 2005 salary

Mike Mussina $17M, Randy Johnson $16M, Kevin Brown $15M, Carl Pavano $9M, Jaret Wright $7M, TOTAL: $64 million... Thats higher than 13 teams' total salaries.

The Yankees won four titles with Tino Martinez manning first base from 1996-2001. They haven't won a ring, however, since Martinez left the Bronx after the 2001 season.According to multiple reports, the Yankees are bringing back Martinez's magic touch.Martinez passed his physical at the Yankees complex in Tampa, Fla., and signed a one-year deal with New York. The Associated Press reported that Martinez and the Yankees had agreed to a preliminary deal that would guarantee him about $2.7 million and include a club option for 2006.

This is one HOT article on the contents of the $250 Play Station Portable with images and description galore... The only problem is that you have to buy new games for the damn thing... Only Half

It seems as if the search will never be over... "Only Half" the bodies have been uncovered after the historic Tsunami that struck Asia. This statement coming from search rescue teams located in Thailand. 114 dead in Somalia and about 100 boats missing along the coast of Africa... I don't think there are any words that can fit this catastrophic event... Make a donation to help Asia at:

Minimum Wage...

The shit things that I encounter... We are all entitled to our own opinion... But apparently my comments were not welcomed at this Blog by other commentators regarding the following statement:

"For those of us legal citizens who bust our asses on this wage (minimum wage: $5.15), there are hundreds of illegal citizens who make a far more decent living then myself. Don't shake your head in disbelief either, mister. I see those illegal aliens pull up to my place of employement in suped out Dodge Rams (sticker price $34,000 btw) Acura's and Mustangs. I ask myself, how in the hell do these people afford those cars when I can't even get new tires put on my 1999 Nissian Sentra? Oh wait.... they're illegal citizens, which means you don't know they're here, so they don't pay taxes, get paid under the table and can purchase a house down the street from mine with cash. Nice. "

I personally thought the comment was racist, discriminatory, and demoralizing... read the post here... If the author would have stated from the get-go that the post was intended to be sarcastic, perhaps I wouldn't of said anything...

The Day After Tomorrow

Is The Day After Tomorrow in front of our face? How ironic is it that we already have movies that resemble Tsunami's in the real world? Not only that, the apocalypse/armageddon are fortold within biblicle prophesies... However, I personally think that some of these prophesies have been written and re-written to the point that interpreters write thier own interpretations and loose the original thought along the way... That reminds me of a game my cousins and I used to play... 'Operator'... we would start off by saying one thing, by the time it came back around it was completely different... Until that day comes, I think I'll take it one day at a time...

36% of Americans believe that the Bible is the word of God and is to be taken literally
-TIME/CNN Poll

59% believe the prophecies in the Book of Revelation will come true
-TIME/CNN Poll

35% say they are paying closer attention to news events and how they might relate to the coming end of the world since the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11
-TIME/CNN Poll

NYC Security for 2005

Are we over looking the BIG PICTURE with the news about the Tsunami and New Years Celebration around the corner? I really don't want to even think of the endless possibilities, but I'm sure some people are still doing thier job in and around NYC... I hope...

Whats Behind a Name

So you ask yourself, Whats behind my name? You can find out what your name means and where it came from here:
Behind The Name
As far as myself, Edwin means "rich friend" from Old English ead "rich, blessed" combined with wine "friend". This was the name of a 7th-century king of Northumbria. After the Norman conquest the name was not popular but was eventually revived in the 19th century. A notable modern bearer was the astronaut Edwin Aldrin, also known as Buzz, the second man to walk on the moon.

Last names are a different story... Each family has its own history... My last name originates in Spain but I've never really investigated my ancestry... Most of these internet sites charge to give you a bunch of crap that isn't worth what you pay for... Beside the best history you can get on you family is from your parents. But sometimes that isn't enough to figure out where we come from. I understand there is a Library in Spain where you can do such a search on your ancestry. I'd like to travel to Spain for some strange reason now...

Blog Update

Ok... So I've spent some time re-designing the Blog... I personally like the "simple" yet "SIMPLE" look it has... Only one problem tho... when the font was converted over to the new font, the pronounciations of the spanish letters were gone! That sorta has me ticked... It couldn't of been easy right... I'll relate to Murphy's law... If anything can go wrong, it will... wait... I like this one better: If anything can NOT go wrong... It will anyway... haha...

Quisqueya

Playero y The Noise...

What's Going On?

What happen this weekend in Asia is no comparison with what is going on around the world. Nearly 13,000 people died and it was as if nothing had happened here in the States or in Iraq. The powers that be... in this case it would be the Super Natural... created an earthquake that can not be compared to any other in the last 40 years. All by which was followed by a non-forgiving Tsunami. A wall of water reaching over 30 feet high swamped huts and houses along with 23,000 people... I haven't been watching any TV for a few days so therfor I can't say that they didn't have any coverage on the news about it... but if you think about it, the minute something happens here in the States or in Iraq our TV's are plastered with news from that area. From what I understand, the US media basically drags every little piece of terrorism they have into this theatrical mess of blaming the terrorists for making our world a colder place to live in. Come'on! If you wouldn't give the news about it and drag it out the way they do we wouldn't be worried about it. Not only that, but they consider "News From Around The World" the following; News from Australia: Woman raises Koalas in effort to control thier habitat... News from Europe: Naked Germans Jump into Ice-cold water.... I mean seriously... I've stopped watching the TV and news just because it isn't what it used to be. Before we had educational sitcoms, now we have these reality shows that portray us as these uncompasionate human beings living in a world of dog eat dog... What happened to the chivalry that our parents instilled in us? What happened to the caring civilian that stops on the side of the road to move a trash can from the middle of the street?

Merengues De Los Años 80

Well, this new journey to develop a website with a music portal is certainly a challenge. I have yet to speak with a lawyer in order to obtain rights to the music I will be putting up and I have yet to start the website design. The thought of making some money off the site is certainly an option. However, I doubt that people will download a .99 cent mp3 when they can get it for free off of a P2P network. Videos are another aspect of the website that are going to be some-what time consuming to convert not to mention hard to find. I spoke to a friend that can get all the videos in the world, but there is a catch. I have to go to DR and convert the Videos into mpeg myself. I certainly wouldn't mind going to DR to do all the work, but I wouldn't be getting paid for it... I have to leave work, shell out all the money to get it done, and upload it to my site which I would have to do anyway...

PS. If anyone has videos they can send my way... Please send'em!!

Blog/Reality Check...

Well for starters lets say I've been doing some thinking...

1st Thought...
Blogging has gotten to be more of a spectator/news oriented/lazy blogging attitude for me...I decided to write this post after reading Magda's Blog and realized that this blog just like any other blog will be read by people that just stumble upon it, or that check it out every day... The information that I am able to share, is/should be unlike any other blog that someone else has... And its not like I didn't already know that, but I felt as tho I have drifted away from that generalization of why I created the blog to begin with... I certainly don't want to spend an hour or two writing a post either... but if I come across an experience or article that I think I could share, I don't see why I can't make a short post and call it a day...

2nd Thought...
I have been very low key lately while trying to absorb "LIFE". For starters, I've been working like crazy lately and for no apparent reason. I know I've said this before... I'm working 80 hours a week at two jobs... I'm nuts... I'm up from 7am till 12 midnight everyday... After Wednesday rolls in, it becomes a mental challenge to try and finish the day and get ready to do it for another two days... At times I also have to work Saturdays and Sundays... not to mention that I also had the Christmas Music page to be thinking about everyday as well... Christmas Eve/Day was wonderful by the way... I spent Christmas Eve visiting family and hanging out with my cousins till 5 in the morning. We also played music from my website which was a blast! I took a weekend off about two weeks ago and it seems as tho that was months ago... As soon as I got back to work it was as if I was back in the same routine. I'm not saying that work is a routine, but I'm referring to the daily routine of waking up early and going to sleep late. It's a killer! I feel as tho I've come to terms with myself and I know its just temporary "thing" I have to go through in order to build my resume, and get the job that I know I am capable of doing with the salary to go along with it. Right now life is treating me well and I can't complain...

3rd Thought...
I think everyone gets that feeling of wanting to go out in the middle of the night even if it's just for a donut and a cup of coffee. I encourage everyone to go with the flow of things... Although there have been moments when I have been perfectly fine relaxing at home and I get the itch to go to a lounge/club or Dunkin Donuts and I end up having either a great night or a really bad one... But I think you are completely in control of how things go for you that day. If your little heart desires to be swinging on a swing at your favorite childhood park then go for it... not that I go to the park at 2 in the morning but it's just a thought... Me Myself and I... well I just got in after getting that itch... It turned out to be a great night... I didn't go to a lounge or a club or dunkin donuts or even to my childhood playground... I actually drove into the city and ended up with a plate of Rice, Beans and Meat and a 16 oz cup of Lemonade in front of me... Man did it hit the spot!

Me busca otro!"

Check Your Tires!

Don't forget to check the tire pressure on your car! Cold air makes molecules litterally slow down as oppossed to hot air which makes them "expand" or jump all over the place... This also causes your tires to loose air per say and put you in danger of getting a flat tire, loose traction, and even loose gas mileage...

Please make note...

The LINKS to download the songs from my Christmas page will be disabled on or about Thursday Dec. 23 2004. This is due to the fact of the low Bandwidth that registersite has allowed my site to have and the cost of having it. However, you are more then welcome to continue to listen to the songs on this page throughout the year...

Hope for high-rolling fans stuck in the same old luxury suite: new throne-like seats along NFL sidelines. You Never Know...

I know that there is an itch/curiousuty in everyone to perfect that physical part of thier body that they aren't comfortable with... With the number of plastic surgeons within the US, you never know who has "gone under the knife"... And with the number of reality shows such as The Swan and Extreme Makover we tend to dwell over the amazing changes that people go through and mentally make note of the things we can perfect on ourselves.

Blogger.com

While looking at the summaries for Blogger News, I noticed that they have a tutorial on "LEARN HOW TO BLOG"... Not for nothing, but how stupid do they think you can be? Maybe my Grandmother might not know how to create an account, create a post, and publish it... but even the not so savvy ideal human being can create a blog, create a post and publish it... They created this tutorial and they are selling it for $29.95... I assume they have the whole interview on this presentation along with a step by step guide on how to create you blog... etc... Thats BS... Its supposed to be a free service from Google and here they are lending thier BRAINS to another corporation Lynda.com so that they can profit from it...

Reggeaton Ripiao

Oyendo esta nueva cancion de Don Chezina junto con Aguakate descubri que en verdad estan por cambiar el ritmo del Reggeaton or maybe not... Its the second Reggeaton fused with Perico Ripiao and I'm not sure what to think of it... Download MP3 here... You can also listen to the clip on the left...

Personal Budgeting

I know that during this time of the year, we can all go over our budget... For this reason I created a Budget sheet that is easy to fill and depending on you, easy to follow... I created the spread sheet simply because I had a hard time keeping track of my bills and monthly payments... After researching the internet for "easy to use" spread sheets I decided I'd create my own because none of spreadsheets I found were even close to what I wanted them to be... Download a copy of my spreadsheet here...

It is also important to know what your credit report says! Some sites claim you can get it for free, but what I found out is that the majority of the sites ask for a credit card in order to keep you as a future customer and charge you for services you don't even want. If anyone knows where i can get a "free" credit report with fico score and graphs etc... You let me know... Meanwhile, the best place for you to get that credit report along with your Fico Score and graphs is @ Equifax. They have several options of getting a copy of your credit report starting at $4. Till next time!

A Christmas Story

YOU'LL SHOOT YOUR EYE OUT!!!! One of the best Christmas Movies ever! Being raised here in the States is much different from being raised in Dominican Republic... I grew up with the fireplace in the living room, burning marshmallows in the fire, and watching classic movies like 'A Christmas Story'. Not to mention the blistering cold weather right outside our doors and the snow flakes that were the size of a Half Dollar Coin! I had soo much fun in that snow!!! Snowball fights with my sister, plowing the snow from the driveway... And the list goes on and on... Living our adult lives is great but with classic Christmas songs, classic Christmas movies, and great memories like those, its hard not to remember the "Good'Ol'Days"

Our Homeland Nominee

Well as you probrably already heard, the Homeland Nominee Bernard B. Kerik, the former NYPD Commisioner withdrew his name from consideration this week to be Bush's Secretary of Homeland Security. Apparently he hired a non-ligitament house keeper and questions were begining to float around the media... read the entire article here...

I believe we could have been a whole lot safer considering his background with the NYPD and the US Military, not to mention that he is a resident of Franklin Lakes, NJ... Now perhaps they will find someone who does not know this area well enough to be capable of protecting it as well as they could have. Especially after a $500 Billiion cutback... read more on this article here...

FIRST

FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) is a great expirience for aspiring Engineers... I was part of that expirience in HS as we built a robot to move tubes onto a Pyramid with three poles on each side... Each year the object of the competition changes and you get to work as a team with school mates in order to create the best design possible. FIRST was founded in 1989 by Dean Kamen, inventor of the Segway Human Transporter. FIRST operates the FIRST Robotics Competition in which teams of high school students, sponsored and assisted by local companies and volunteers, design, assemble, and test a robot capable of performing a specified task in competition with other teams. FIRST also runs the FIRST LEGO League, for children 9-14 years old, and FIRST Place, an innovative science and technology center, including a hands-on children's science museum.

Inspiration...

First and formost I want to thank those who visit my blog to read a post, those who stop by to listen to music or just to say hello... You are all an inspiration...

I wrote a post about it... but I'd like to elaborate a little more... I love English Christmas music, but to listening to it for 8 hours straight can certainly get annoying... That is what I was enduring for a whole WEEK... So with out any hesitation, I started to create Navidad.html on Friday Dec. 3rd without having the slightest idea that it would make people cry just by listening to some of the music and even hitting Airwaves in Massachussttes... I feel as if that page has created a life of its own and there is so much more to it then just the music, the message board, and the downloads... For some its just a reminder of our beautiful country that we left behind, Dominican Republic for me, for some it's the joy of listening to a classic Christmas song that makes you smile at the sound of the first beat, and for others... well its just hard to explain... you either understand or you want to understand... This Month has been and will continue to be a tough one for me... working 80 hours a week and not getting enough sleep has been difficult... not to mention it's the holidays... but becuase of the warm Thank You's and all of the Joy that emmits from the Message Board I find it that much easier to make it through another day... Thank You ALL... From the Bottom Of My Heart...

La Cortina

Remo tells us about his screening for the movie "La Cortina Del Palacio"... Read his review here...

I was in Jarabacoa 6 years ago and I spent a lovely time there... The people from Jarabacoa are some of the most friendliest, caring, honest, and loving people that I have ever met. "La Cortina" was one of the many places I visited. I'm not sure if the film La Cortina Del Palacio had anything to do with this place, but I can asure you that La Cortina is definately one of the many places to visit when you go to Jarabacoa, Dominican Republic...
P.S. Don't forget to bring a bathing suit...

A Mini Vacation

I just had one of the best weekends at home away from Home... I must admit that being stranded at a Hotel for two days isn't a bad idea every now and then... I haven't had a vacation for about 6 years now... Fact of the matter is I'm always on vacation... I've been going to school, work, and back home for the last 6 years... La vida del pobre, como quien dice... So being at home away from Home isn't a bad idea, but being Away from Home stranded on an Island in the Caribean is even a BETTER IDEA... "Me Olvide De Vivir"... Tono Rosario...
