Remolacha.net

I've been keeping track of Remolacha.net only since August-September: first it was La mega, next it was in El Nacional, Remo has been getting exclusives... interviews, letters, promos, and
breaking stories... Personally I enjoy checking the site out everyday and reading what is going on in the Dominican Republic and abroad... Keep up the Good work Remo...

Dominican Time

Is it just me or is it just me? If you tell me that my appointment is at 10 I'll be there at 9.45. I don't want to single out any group of people, but Dominicans and Women have a hard time accepting the fact that the world doesn't revolve around them. If you tell me that a seminar will be starting at 7, I'll be there at 6.45. If you tell me a movie is supposed to start at 6.00 I'll be there at 5.45. If I tell you I'm going to pick you up in 10-15 minutes, I mean I'm going to pick you up in 10-15 minutes. This weekend was an unproductive weekend and I hate it when people waiste my time. I don't care if your the f*ing Princess of Antartica. Matter of fact I'm sure the Princess of Antartica wouldn't be late if she existed. Yo soy Dominicano.

Do you know what it is like to be waiting 1 hour for the Guest Speaker (Marino Mejia) to show up and prepare for his little speach? If you did that in College the students would have walked out 10 minutes after class was supposed to start! It was supposed to be a History Lesson which covered the years from 1978-2004. Well hell, why doesn't he take over the damn thing and run it the way it's supposed to be ran. But then again, I wasn't there to debate what he was saying... plus it was already 10.15 when he was ready to debate. He had a crowd of about 40 Dominicans that were ready to go at it... que lio...

Do you know what it is like to be sitting like a monkey for a half hour without notice of what's going on? I was there to support the film maker and all, but as a producer if I tell you that we will be starting at 6.00, there is no doubt in my mind that if something is not going right or if the running time will be a little off, I will let you know what's going on 10 minutes after the "starting time"... I got my ass out of that seat and walked out because I have no time to waiste. 'Pa colmo, it was presented at one of the most prestigious colleges in the country. Something that in my opinion has a lot to say for the group of producers, actors, and the audience that was there to watch the movie. However, I can't say much on the movie itself since I did not stay long enough to watch it. And I'm not movie critic either, I'm just telling it like it is. If I offend anyone you can leave your comment and I'll let you know what I think.

Maybe I'm being anal about the whole punctuality thing, but thats just me. Hopefully as I get older I'll learn to show up late and make everyone wait for me. With that said... Ever notice that the person that shows up late is always Happier then the person that's waiting?

The Hunger Site

"Give Free Food With Every Click"

hmmm...

After spending more than 4 hours figuring out what was wrong with my html character setting, I spent the rest of the night browsing links that led me to sites created by the hispanic community within. I saw a couple of sites that were really interesting...

Latinos In College

"In this site all the latin college organizations will be able to post their logos and have their own space where they would be able to promote the activities that are going on in their schools. Apart from that, L.i.C will be organizing parties in team with the schools organizations which will end up being very proffitable to their organization because we will provide everything needed to have the best party possible, I mean, Merengue bands, Reggaeton Artists, famous djs and much more.

.::Also when a school has a party and we are not involved, we would still like to be able to provide the school with flyers and promotional materialso that way their party could be the best possible. in order for this to work, we will need all the support possible from every Latino college student in America, which means that there could be a job opportunity for the students at the school where the events are being held. The events will vary from school to schools, hoping that everyone will get a taste of L.i.C (Latinos in college) in the future and be satisfied. I hope you like the idea of our vision, and hopefully you will be part of this organization that ones It launches there will be no stopping, trustme."

The grammer is a bit on the rough side, but it seems like a great site! Best of luck to them!

All the sites I visited were related to the music industry?!? What's up with that?? I know there is a great need for a Latin Music Portal that would provide a wide variety of latin music downloads and from the looks of it, I'm not the only one thats aware of the issue... However, I know one thing... they ALL lack ONE thing... well... besides me being involved in thier creation...

Memories

On my way home today I was listening to KTU as they played Classic House Music... I must say that brought memories from the mid-late 90's... You see, I used to listen to Hip Hop, R&B, House, and Techno religiously back in the day. Break Dancing is a spectacular form of art for me. Especially when your doing it for fun. Watching people creating moves from no-where is amazing to me. I can't remember the last time I kicked my foot in the air and started the windmill fan. Now-a-days it amazes people on the street of NY. During the summer I'll go into the city to chill out and you'll find groups of dancers on the streets or in the subways, break dancing to Micheal Jackson's classics (and although he has his issues, he deserves props when props should be given... that music "Makes Your Feet Oooze On The Dance Floor"...) or even La India, "The Perculator", C&C Music Factory... and the list goes on and on... Those are definately great memories for me, so when ever I listen to the music, I "Listen To The Music" and let the bass touch the groove thats in my heart!

Taboo Subjects

First off lets define Taboo: A taboo is something forbidden or prohibited. Something you cannot do or say in your society without fear of punishment or social sanction. All cultures have taboos of various strengths, but what is taboo in one culture/generation may be acceptable in another. Writing on taboo subjects or activities is risky by definition. You are pushing the edge of decency, ethics, and conventional values.

Taboo Subjects:
1. Sex
2. Death
3. Homosexuality
4. Money
5. Wieght
6. Racism/Discrimination

Oh Que Sera

I got the urge to write a few words.... well... not really my words but the lyrics to a great song!

OH OH QUE SERA!

Oh que sera, que sera
que andan suspirando
por las alcobas
que andan susurrando
en versos y trovas
que andan combinandonos
preguntas locas
que andan en las cabezas
anda en las bocas
que anda ascendiendo
por altos huecos
que estan hablando
fuerte en las bodegas
gritan en los mercados
que cosa es esa
es la naturaleza sera, que sera
que no tiene certeza
ni nunca tendra
que no tiene medida
Oh que sera, que sera
que vive en las ideas
de sus amantes
lo cantan los poetas
mas delirantes
lo juran los profetas
embriagados
que esta en la romeria
de mutilados
lo suenan de manana
las meretrices
lo piensan los bandidos
los desvalidos
en todos los sentidos sera, que sera
que no tiene decencia
ni nunca tendra
que no tiene censura
ni nunca tendra
que no tiene sentido

Oh que sera, que sera
que ninguna amenaza
podra evitar
porque todas las risas
van a desafiar
y todas las campanas
van a repicar
porque todos los himnos
van a consagrar
y que todos los ninos
van a celebrar
y todos los destinos
se van a encontrar
y el mismo padre eterno
que nunca fue alla
al ver aquel infierno
lo bendecira
que no tiene verguenza
ni nunca tendra
que no tiene gobierno
ni nunca tendra
lo que no tiene juicio.

Letra: Chico Buarque de Hollanda.

My Ride

I find it amusing how people take things for granted...
In the "Corporate World" no one really seems to care much...
Your just another entity that exists in the mist of everyone else...
To be frank, I could care less what you think as long as I'm getting paid.
And its getting to be a bit more obvious...
That people within your own atmosphere are just as "cut throat" as anyone else in the business.
I'm here to accomplish a goal and set my name in stone...
The only difference,
This time around I won't be bringing anyone along for the ride.

I believe that if you set yourself to do something you will accomplish that goal. Remind yourself that you have the will power within yourself to accomplish what it is that you have planned. You may need help along the way, but accept no "tag alongs". Once you are there, remember those that helped you out and simply return the favor. Remember that if the person that is helping you sees an advantage to what your doing, they might just take your spot and claim what is rightfully yours.

Edwin Reyes

I've been asked if I'm the son of a "Great Puerto Rican Poet" by the name of Edwin Reyes... My answer is always no...

I have no idea of who the gentlemen is none the less being related to him. From time to time I've also searched on Yahoo and I've found out that Edwin was a great poet indeed. Born in Ciales, PR in 1946 and is considered to be "El Poeta de San Juan." Not only was he a writer and a poet, Edwin Reyes was also an actor and made two short films on other poets: Luis Pales Matos and Clara Lair... Two of his books were: Cronica de Vertigo and El Arpa Imaginaria.

Another "Edwin Reyes" is a famous Phillipine Billiard Player! The guy has his own pool sticks and cue balls, but any information on this guy is limited! I have a lot of "hits" from the Phillipines that are looking for Edwin via search engines: Yahoo, AltaVista, Google etc... but they don't find very much... Good Luck to who ever wants to find more on him...

Now as far as searches on Yahoo, Google, AltaVista, or any search engine, my sites pop up the most when you search my name... but I'm not famous... lol.. yet... Check out if your name/info pops up on these searches, you'll be surprised how much info you can get on yourself without even knowing it...

Rafael Leonidas Trujillo Molina

For Dominicans who are born in the US, raised in the US, and educated in the US, our knowledge of the history of the Dominican Republic is limited. The first history books we read are about George Washington, Abraham Lincoln, John F. Kennedy, and so on. Speaking from personal experience, I can't recall reading any history on the Dominican Republic throughout my 12 years of public education in NJ. The first book I read on the Dominican Republic was about two years ago when I saw a book on Trujillo, one of the countries most infamous dictators.

Trujllo was placed in charge of the Dominican National Guard in 1924 by the United States of America. In 1930 he ran against Horacio Vasquez for president and fraudulently claimed ninety five percent of the vote. Once in power he used the National Guard to terrorized and banish all civilian opponents. He also established a secret police forced called the SIM (Servicio de Inteligencia Militar) which not only gathered information but engaged in torture and murder at Trujillo's request. In 1936, he changed the name of the capital city Santo Domingo to Cuidad Trujillo. During the 1950's small groups of young Dominicans formed underground organizations dedicated to overthrowing the Trujillo regime. These small groups which were composed by people who had no formal education, struggled with the living standards as well as the "educated and well positioned youths, shamed and chagrined by their parents nauseating surrender to Trujillo...Students, businessmen, doctors, farmers, and even seminarists were meeting in eight-and ten-member cells." However, any and all attempts of overthrowing the Trujillo regime were unsuccessful. Hundreds of thousands of Dominican men, women, and children were murdered during his dictatorship...

Stories of his assassination vary according to the driver of the limo in which he traveled, but the facts are clear... "The coup attempt was not successful. The assassins went into hiding as Ramfis Trujillo, the dictator's son, assumed control of the Dominican Republic the following day. The following month almost all of the assassins were rounded up along with their families and friends. All were tortured and several committed suicide. In October, street riots broke out in Ciudad Trujillo and workers went on strike financed by the anti Trujillist National Civic Union. On November 18, 1961 the six remaining Trujillo assassins were taken to Ramfi Trujillo's hacienda where they were tied to trees, shot, cut up and fed to sharks at a nearby beach. The following day Ramfi Trujillo fled the Dominican Republic under US military guard while the US Atlantic fleet arrived in Santo Domingo's harbor."

Born October 24, 1891
Died May 30, 1961

NFL Playoffs

"Crowds are so rowdy at Eagles games, a judge used to hold court in the basement at Veterans Stadium, meting out instant justice, a la Roy Bean, to every drunk who showed up wearing handcuffs and a bloody T-shirt.

Why the attitude? There's probably a lot of deep-rooted psychoanalytical gobbledigoop involved, but we needn't go there today. Besides, in the end, the answer is simple: Philly teams never win." Jim Armstrong

Two Week Notice

Next week I will be giving my two week notice at one of my two Jobs... It's still not clear to me which one to stay at... I love both jobs but I can't be working like a zombie everyday! Not that I'm literally a zombie, but I'm exhausted... 5-6 hours of sleep is not enough for anyone! Anyway... I'll be deciding over the weekend (Big "Snow Storm" coming my way)...

...Actually my two week notice came sooner then expected. I handed in my resignation today... and my last day is tomorrow...I figured money isn't everything... I'm exhausted y me estoy poniendo flaco! Not like I was fat to begin with but it takes a toll on you after two months of working two f/t jobs...

I Sit Back...

I sit back and I take a look at my Blog and realize that the majority of the thoughts/posts that I've written, colors I've used, people I've met etc... are all part of my nationality... For the first time in my life I've gotten "in-touch" with my nationality... Reading books I've never read, seeing things I've never seen, eating things I've never ate, and on occasion, wearing clothes I've never worn... Some may consider it an obsession, other may see it as patriotism... Me... I try not to make any assumptions of what it is and I go with the flow... For the sake of arguement, tomorrow I may be in Germany, but the time I've spent doing all the research, reading, and self discovery over the last few months to better understand my background, my culture, my ethnicity, my nationality... is priceless...

I believe there has to be a considerable amount of desire/confidence within yourself to get up off your ass and do for yourself what others can't do for you. I'm also a big believer of the idea that when someone tries to help you out, it is up to you to help yourself... Simply because someone is offering to help you, it doesn't mean that they will be carrying you along for the ride. No one is going to make you wealthy, give you chances, or take you into consideration when an opportunity presents itself... You have to make things happen. Put yourself in a posistion of demand. Obtain skills that not everyone has in your field. All in All... You become an asset.

Blogger Birthday!

Happy Birthday Bracuta!

Zacarias Ferrera

The American Heritage Dictionary meaning for the phrase "Tweedledum and Tweedledee": Two people or two groups resembling each other so closely that they are practically indistinguishable... My best comparison to the phrase would be related to the movie Dumb and Dumber...

Now I Know

I've proved to myself that I am not using half the stuff I learned in College...

History: No one asks me any questions on John Locke...
Chemistry: I haven't been asked to derive any formulas and calculate it's Molecular Combustion...
Calculus: The last time I derived the Harmonic Series was with the Professor in class...

However I can't say the same about Physics or any of my EE classes...

Daily Sunday Dominican Post...

I think there is a big mis-understanding/mis-conception of what the history of the Dominican Republic is... Some of us know the history to a certain extent and some of us know nothing at all... Perhaps we are all being ignorant to a certain level but none the less we are entitled to our opinion. (including myself) Regardless what we eat, the music that we decide to listen to, the clothes we wear, where we live, what we do for a living or the social settings we decide to put ourselves in, I believe that knowledge of where you come from is extremely important. I will re-consider a suggestion by made by a fellow Blogger and educate those that are willing to read what I post on the history of The Dominican Republic every Sunday from this Sunday forward...

If there is anyone out there that would like to contribute to the "Daily Sunday Dominican Post" you are welcome to do so by sending me an email: edwin@edwinreyes.com

The Posts will be posted on DominicanBlogger.com...

Yo Soy Dominicano

Pienso que todo comenso con www.DominicanBlogger.com... (Shall I say we are Trend Setters)...

Have you ever wondered who you are?

From time to time i get a glimpse of who I am when I over hear conversations between my parents, aunts, uncles, and friends but I have never sat down with my parents to explore the possibilities of getting a clear answer. I'm sure that while I was in elementary, middle school, high school, or even college I may have come across an assignment that required me to find such things on my own. To be honest with you... I can't remember too many things... So here i am trying to get a glimpse of who I am down on the internet of all places...

OK... here are the basics of what I know of my "Family Tree"... My Great Grandparents from my granfathers side migrated from Spain to the Dominican Republic in the late 1800's early 1900's. My Grandfather, a man who passed away when my father was about 17, was a stuborn macho man. I'm not too sure if he got that trait before or after he arived to the Dominican Republic. My grandmothers parents also migrated from Spain to the Dominican Republic where she met my grandfather, married and had a total of 10 children. My great grandparents from both of my mothers side were natives of the Dominican Republic. I'm not too sure if they were in fact taino indians but i'm certain that my roots from my moms side date back to the Columbus era on the Island of Hispanola. A breif description of these taino indians would be: The Arawak/Taino society was basically a very gentle culture. It was characterized by happiness, friendliness and a highly organized hierarchical, paternal society, and a lack of guile. Each society was a small kingdom and the leader was called a cacique. At the time of Columbus there were five different kingdoms on the island of Hispaniola. The Indians practiced polygamy. Most men had 2 or 3 wives, but the caciques had as many as 30. It was a great honor for a woman to be married to a cacique. Not only did she enjoy a materially superior lifestyle, but her children were held in high esteem.

My father came to the United States in 1967 at the age of 22. He worked various jobs as a dishwasher at restaurants and a doorman downtown. In 1969 he started as a Janitor for Nynex Telephone Company where he was promoted as a Technician while attending George Washington HS in Washington Hieghts, NY for his GED.My mom was a country girl who lived in a town called Bonao, RD. Not having any formal education, she led a modest life with the love and care from my grandparents. I believe that is what has our family together to this day.

My parents married in 1974. The way in which they met is something that you would only hear about in that era. On a trip back home, my father noticed a young lady while traveling down a road with one of his close friends. He said, "Who's that?" Little did he know that he would soon meet his future wife along with her parents in less then two hours. It was a love affair at first site. Traveling back and forth between the US and DR, my father had successfully brought his wife and two kids in 1980. My sister was born on November 14, 1977 and I was born on March 13, 1979... almost a year and a half apart to the tee. My younger sister was born on April 10, 1986.

So there it is... some basic history on who I am and where I come from.

Y Puedo Decir... YO SOY DOMINICANO!

Aside From Blogging...

Over the course of the last two months I've been posting and reading other Blogs just about every day. From all of this reading and posting that I've been doing, I find that the Blogging Community lacks the ability of creativity... or I could just be wrong by saying that when in reality Blogs are just like a diary... only in a public light! There are a chosen few that have that "it" that you need in order to be creative and successful at the same time. As an example I will use my Blog... For starters I have some programming expirience but limited expirience with html, java, asp, php... My major expirience has been with C++... However I have quickly picked up on the HTML and PHP language... Not that knowing how to program is something that is out of this world but all in all, it is an accomplishment and a nice hobby... I'm just not all that good at it... I also believe that people are misinterpreted/misunderstood at times through the comments and ideas that are made thus creating a reaction that you wouldn't expect. Now aside from blogging I also enjoy sports, music, my private time, a video game, spending time with the family, helping those that are not as fotunate as myself, long drives, the Rubix Cube, Movies and eating... As the summer time gets closer and closer I believe that the Blogging community will soon head outdoors and expirience the better things that life has to offer... I say that because there isn't much I can do even if i worked a 9-5 M-F. By the time I would get home, its already dark outside... not to mention the cold weather. Everything just seems to slow down for everyone during the winter months. But come April when you get a few warm days, everyone wants to be outside enjoying the Bee-A-U-Tee-Full weather... In the meantime Blogging will be my prefered past time even if it gets me into hot water with some people...

P.S.

Your not worth my space either...

..."Plans For Home"

Reality, Emotions, and Sincerity have caused me to write this post and show some love for a fellow Dominican that is fighting the war in Iraq...

Huascar writes...

"My unit and most of the Brigade only got a couple of months left in Iraq... some battalions were extended for a couple of extra months, they were originally schedule to go back this January but they will go back in March just like us, making it a 15 month deployment for those extended. I keep telling my family and friends that I'll see them in mid March or early April but to be honest I already got my mind set up for June or July just in case my Division gets extended" but a lot of the friends and soldiers I live and work with tend to forget stuff easy..."

Wow... where can I begin... I'm tired, happy, frustrated, hopeless, excited, focused and yes I'm still ALIVE... woo hoo it was a good day... It's Hump Day (Wednesday) and that means we're half way through the week. For some reason "halfway" doesn't quite do it for me... I'd like it to be Friday already! Or even better... A Friday afternoon, in the month of June! and on Vacation! But I'm not... I'm stuck with the cold weather combined with cold drops of rain that starts off as snow, works its way into rain, and ultimately... (fill in the blanks) ...oohhh oohh remember that!?! Adlibs/MADlibs? I used to get it through my elementary school book sales! I think they still have them in the thin newspaper like magazines selling books for kids... Well I always asked my mom to get them for me... I used to fill in the blanks and come up with some wacky stuff...

I feel obligated to write in Spanish now too!
DominicanBlogger.com

Remolacha.net Fights Back!

The following is an excerpt from El Nacional regarding a Lawsuit that has not yet been filed by Frederick "El Pacha" Martinez, regarding pictures that were posted on the internet.

"Angel "Remo" del Orbe asegura que en lugar de tomar acciones legales, el animador dominicano debería sentirse orgulloso de que un medio de tanta importancia lo haya tomado en cuenta."

"How Does It Feel" to get arrested for a DUI?

Just ask D'Angelo.
The Grammy-winning R&B singer, whose real name is Michael Eugene Archer, was busted in a ritzy suburb of Richmond, Virginia, over the weekend for drunken driving.
The 30-year-old Virgina native was also hit with drug possession charges Sunday, after cops pulled him over during a traffic stop around 4 a.m.
Chesterfield Police Captain Karl Leonard, cops searched D'Angelo's ride and turned up "what we believe to be cocaine and marijuana," according to the Richmond Times Dispatch.

"The Homeless Get What They Deserve..."When you donate gently worn shoes to any NY Keneth Cole Outlet you recieve 20% off on your next purchase... and the shoes will get donated to homeless shelters.

It's definately a controversial Advertising campaign. But effective. It caught my eye...

The Art Of Working Two Jobs...

I was hesitant on writing so much but here it is... Three more weeks of hard work and I'm home free!!! Monday will set off yet another Labor Intesive work week for me. I've actually gotten used to working these crazy hours I'm working but at the end of this month I'll be greatful that I won't have to do it anymore. I highly recommend that everyone work two jobs! lol... its actually not that bad... After the first two weeks you'll want to quit one of the two jobs... then you look at how much money your making. That just motivates you to want to work the two jobs. Not only that, the expirience is priceless. I'll gain more from the expirience then from the money that I earn. I'll be able to put that on my resume and carry it under my belt for the rest of my life... Just like that piece of paper you get from College.

My cousin has a Masters in Phsycology... from Columbia University! yet because she doesn't have any expirience she ends up having a very hard time getting a better paying job. Truth be told, the average 26 yo male is only making 30K a year in the US. Friends that graduate now-a-days are barely making 50K right out of college with an Engineering Degree, and if you don't have a degree or expirience to show for something, you'll be stuck at about 25-35K a year working a dead end job. I don't think thats bad but knowing the things that I can do with my degree and the expirience to go along with it, I'd work two jobs at any given point in time if it was to learn more then i already know... You also can't forget you have to be motivated, ready and willing to commit to the lifestyle and everything else that comes along with it.

No social life for 5 days or 7 days (at times) would be one of them... I've even had a hard time commiting to a new friendship because the time that I have off of work is priceless to me. I hope no one holds any grudges against me either... I get tons of calls and I either tell them I'm at work at which point I get the feeling that they feel sorry they even bothered to call... orI get the VM saying... "Tu estas perdido, me llamas despues"... I listen to the message on my way to the other job and by the time I remember everything else I have to do, I run out of time to give them a call back... It's that crazy... but its all worth it in my opinion.

My Two Cents...

I once heard an old saying...

"What do you do when your life turns sour?
Add a little sugar, and you make lemonade."

The joke on El Pacha is getting blown out of proportion and it's more then likely just a publicity stunt. Today listening to him on the radio on the way home from work, his demeanor was unlike any other day. He was definitely trying to be more respectful, more "down to earth", DIQUE..., he was making himself sound "edgumakated"... (educated)... I can't stand the F*ing guy... He is one of the Biggest hypocrites I've ever known... y ese character que el tenie tampoco lo aguanto.

I was at a Private Party for Dominican Times back in September, y el tipo aparecio con un traje, unos lente, el pelo suelto, y haciendo mas buya que no se que, saludando a los compenero del trabajo... I can stand a lot of shit from people... But the minute I saw his short ass I couldn't stand his dumb ass... Yo hasta me fui de su lado y me di un trago!... And I listen to his stupid radio show from time to time and it was obvious that he was being someone else today. His idiotic personality is very controversial and I'm sure that sooner or later he won't have any Radio Show...

And talk about supporting other Dominicans... Nadie aqui quiere ofender a nadie...

AND I KNOW MY RIGHTS MAMAO... I CAN POST ANYTHING I WANT ON THIS BLOG... THERFOR YOU CAN'T TELL ME WHAT I CAN AND CAN"T HAVE ON HERE SUCKER... EH MA! VOY A PONER LA FOTO AQUI...

Thats my two cents...

The Rise And Fall Of Spin Cycle

I'm not sure if I should be Proud, Hurt, in Dis-Belief, Shocked, or even feel Sorry for something I may have caused. Last week I encountered for the very first time,
Spin Cycle At The Laundromat
A great Literary Blog with a new topic every single week where 7 writers posted their thoughts each on a different day. However, the author/owner (EJ) of Spin Cycle At The Laundromat has closed the Blog and removed any and all hateful posts.

I'm not sure if this was because of the demoralizing, racy, and discriminatory post (my opinion) that was created/no longer available for some mysterious reason (along with my comments as well as others that were criticizing the post as well as defending the comment on illegal citizens) by one of the writers (J)... And I quote...

"For those of us legal citizens who bust our asses on this wage (minimum wage: $5.15), there are hundreds of illegal citizens who make a far more decent living then myself. Don't shake your head in disbelief either, mister. I see those illegal aliens pull up to my place of employment in suped out Dodge Rams (sticker price $34,000 btw) Acura's and Mustangs. I ask myself, how in the hell do these people afford those cars when I can't even get new tires put on my 1999 Nissian Sentra? Oh wait.... they're illegal citizens, which means you don't know they're here, so they don't pay taxes, get paid under the table and can purchase a house down the street from mine with cash. Nice. "

In a recent post, EJ wrote... "So much going on here the last week I almost forgot what this blog was about. Then I remembered so it is with tears and a broken heart I say goodbye. Spin Cycle is officially closed. It was a short run; now officially a one hit wonder. So remember our 1 or 2 good songs and please forget about the rest. I don't think anyone who was here is truly hateful. It is sad that it ended this way it is sadder still that so many feelings were hurt in the process.I enjoyed each writer and wish each of them the best."... and continues to write... "I am however removing any hatefuls posts and comments.I apologize to anyone and everyone that was dragged through this mess. This is not what Spin Cycle was supposed to be."

I commend EJ for the decision to close the Blog, as I do in wishing her the best of luck on her future Blogs.

Mario Moreno Better Known As "Cantinflas"

Truth be told, every year during the holidays there is one latin programing channel that opens up a can of "Cantinflas" movies for more then 24 hours! ... well not really 24 hours...

"Mario Moreno" (1911-1993), better known as "Cantinflas", was a comedian from Mexico. One time, Charlie Chaplin called ''Cantinflas'' the 'funniest man in the world'.

''Cantinflas'' did not start his professional life as an entertainer. In fact, it is a little known fact that ''Cantinflas'' was in the military and later, also a professional boxer before he dedicated himself to the entertainment world, as a dancer. ''Cantinflas'' started out performing at a circus in the 1930s. In 1935, he joined the Follies Bergere theater, becoming a popular figure on Mexico's theater scene. He also appeared in a few movies during that time, but it was in 1940, that ''Cantinflas'' finally became a movie star, after shooting ''Ahi Esta El Detalle''. The phrase that gave that movie it's name became a ''Cantinflas'' staple the rest of his career. From there on, ''Cantinflas'' went on to make more than 50 feature films, becoming a widely known entertainer and legendary comic all over Latin America and in Spain.

''Cantinflas'' went to Hollywood in the 1940s, making two movies, Around the World in Eighty Days and Pepe. His participaton in ''Around The World'' garnered him an Oscar nomination.
''Cantinflas'' also became President of the Mexican actors' union as well as Secretary of their filmworkers' union. The money he made he invested it in real estate and in the sport of bullfighting.

''Cantinflas'' has a star in the Hollywood walk Of Fame and when he died in '93, the US Senate held a minute of silence to honor his memory.

Among the things that endeared him to his public was the way he used to talk during his films: His characters, like ''El Barrendero'', loved to strike up a normal conversation with anyone in the movie, and then complicate the conversation to the point where no one understood what they were talking about, a practice that many of his fans found to be very funny.
